“God is always trying to give good things to us, but our hands are too full to receive them.”

~Augustine

Were He to show Himself to us such as He is, His beauty would slay us. Were He to hide Himself from us completely, we would die from cold and darkness. ~Servant of God Archbishop Luis Maria Martinez (From 6/8/18 Magnificat)

St. Catherine of Siena once heard the Lord say to her, “Remember that I am and you are not.” And St. Paul said, “What do you have that you have not received? So why do you boast?” ~ Bishop Robert Barron - Gospel Reflection on 4/26/18 - JOHN 13:16-20

We often think that cruelty, hatred, violence, fear, suffering, and death are the most powerful forces in the world. But through Jesus’ resurrection, we now know that the divine love is more powerful. ~ Bishop Robert Barron - Gospel Reflection on 5/30/17 - JOHN 17:1-11A

I saw this bumer sticker today that made me laugh and smile:

When Charles Darwin died,

he changed his theory.

Litany of Humility

O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed,
Deliver me, Jesus.

From the desire of being loved... Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being extolled ... Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being honored ... Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being praised ... Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being preferred to others... Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being consulted ... Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being approved ... Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being humiliated ... Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being despised... Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of suffering rebukes ... Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being calumniated ... Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being forgotten ... Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being ridiculed ... Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being wronged ... Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being suspected ... Deliver me, Jesus.

That others may be loved more than I,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

That others may be esteemed more than I ...
That, in the opinion of the world,
others may increase and I may decrease ...
That others may be chosen and I set aside ...
That others may be praised and I unnoticed ...
That others may be preferred to me in everything...
That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should…

Amen

"Sometimes the people closest to me have trouble accepting me when I'm trying to be the person God made me to be." ~ The Little Black Book for Lent, 2/29/16

Pray for everyone that God has changed over our CEW weekends, that they may be commited to those changes even when it is difficult.

Today's Mercy from the "365 Days of Mercy" App hit me right up side the head...

"The basic disease is sloth. It is that strange laziness and passivity of our entire being which always pushes us “down” rather than “up” — which constantly convinces us that no change is possible and therefore desirable. It is in fact a deeply rooted cynicism which to every spiritual challenge responds “what for?” and makes our life one tremendous spiritual waste.  It is the root of all sin because it poisons the spiritual energy at its very source." ~ Fr. Alexander Schmemann on the Prayer of St. Ephraim

I have been looking for what is "wrong with me" and why am I feeling so disconnected right now.  God in His Mercy sent me this...  He was right on target as always!  Now it is up to me to fix it!

While walking for right to life in Manitowoc a young girl stopped and gave another walker a candy bar. She thanked her for walking and told her that years ago a walker talked to her and convinced her not to have an abortion. Her daughter is 12 now. She thanked us again. God bless the person who talked to her and the mother and daughter…….WALKING IS DEFINITLY WORTH IT!!!

It is a common mistake to think that God's "works" and "mighty deeds" are told only in Scripture. Every person's life is God's work of art, an expression of His creative love, His goodness, His compassion. ~Magnificate 10/13/15
